TextilTextile

Nomad memorial of pre-existing borders is a textile object made basically with fabrics and yarns of different qualities and characteristics. Its format refers to the Andean quipu, but in this case the characteristic knots of those have been supplanted by packages, wrappings that guard intriguing contents. Names of chiefs who acted in our territory, American crosses, varied images that were printed on fabrics and papers, cover and accompany those packages, attached with seams and bindings with hurtful characteristics. Whites and blacks meet and intertwine in wraps and patches. The work is part of the series JUNTARSE 30,000 which aims to carry out 30,000 works related to the indigenous situation in our territory, in different historical times. On this occasion, names of chieftains were selected from various texts and documents, some of them little known, with the idea of making a transportable memorial that could be displayed in different fields and opportunities. The different borders that were being established, in an advance of Spaniards and Creoles over territories occupied by the original peoples, generated rich stories of relations that were not always violent, as there was a cultural exchange that shaped our characteristics as a country. The indigenous resistance took different forms from the malon to the agreements produced by parliaments among chiefs. The studies on these facts are abundant and the intention that dominates the series JUNTARSE 30,000 is to allow the viewer to ask questions about facts that are not yet fully disseminated.
